  • Pencil with eraser
  • Paper scissors
  • Tape or glue stick
  • Straight pins with heads
  • Colored Pencils
  • Book with block designs (any book with quilt blocks will work)
  • 1/2 yard muslin or flannel to pin design to (even leftover batting)

  • Sewing machine (off white thread, bobbins, needles)
  • Can of Magic Sizing™ (available in laundry aisle of grocery store) or Best Press™
  • Iron and ironing surface  ( Coordinate with other quilters in the class.  2-3 quilters to an iron make this class a dream!

Choose 3-4 color families, such as blue, pink, green, purple or yellow.  Any colors will work, so don’t worry about “matching” the color families to each other.

Bring 2-8 lights, 2-8 medium and 2-8 darks in each family.  Make sure your fabrics are not busy prints. A fat quarter of each fabric is enough. You may bring more fabric (and more color families) if you wish.  Fabric will be available for purchase in class.

You can also use Karen Combs' gradated fabric, available on her webpage. Click here for Karen's online catalog. If you use Karen's fabrics, select 2 or 3 colors you enjoy working with.

What is a busy print?  Any high contrast print such as white over a dark color, a small calico print or a "loud" print.  The fabric "Fossil Fern" is a good example of a non-busy print.    CLICK HERE TO SEE FABRIC SUGGESTIONS
