PIECED CELTIC MAGIC
August 30, 2008 Are you fascinated by the intricate knotwork in Celtic Designs but appliqué just isn't your thing? I felt the same way and set out to create these designs using piecing techniques instead. Let me teach you to design your own Celtic quilt using only two simple pieced blocks. Lesson Two covers value, color and the optical illusion of transparency. Lesson Three concentrates on choosing the size of your quilt and learning how to design your own cutting plan and fabric needs. Lesson Four will take you through the construction of your original quilt and show you some quilting options. Once you have completed your quilt, only you will know how easy it was. From Karen's new book, Celtic Pieced Illusions. 4 week class
COMBING THROUGH YOUR SCRAPS
Offered again in 2009 I had a dilemma. My fabric stash was taking over my sewing room and was threatening to take over the rest of the house. I had an overgrown fabric stash! It had outgrown my shelving units and was cascading onto the floor. If I did not stop it, soon it would be crawling out the door. I guess you could say it was out of control. My fabric collection had been growing for years. After looking through it, I realized I was tired of some pieces. There were colors and patterns that I no longer cared for. Since I planned on buying more fabric, I needed to either add onto my house or come up with an idea to use up some of my older fabrics to make room for my new purchases. I wanted to make quilts out of this older fabric in a way that was quick, easy, used many fabrics and, of course, created quilts that were visually interesting. The obvious answer was scrap quilts. Since I wanted to combine many fabrics, many textures and many colors, the design had to be correct. I did not want to worry about matching colors, matching patterns or whether this red could go with that blue. I just wanted to have fun and sew! I decided to ponder this problem and knew the answer would come to me. This class and my book Combing Through Your Scraps are the answer to the fabric stash problem. You will enjoy using your fabric stash to easily create scrap quilts that are fun, fast and beautiful. 4 week class

I always wanted to be able to draw, but never could. I hated drawing in school, knowing that my drawing would never be chosen to be on display. I even had one teacher look at my drawing of a heart valve in biology class and say," well, as you know what you have there. . . " Boy was I embarrassed! When I started quilting, I discovered that I loved patchwork. I loved putting the patches into different designs. I discovered that I could be an artist, a patchwork artist. With the technique in More Patchwork Illusions, I think my artistic ability shines. I may not be able to draw a cat or a heart valve, but I can create marvelous illusions. Just like an artist. That is one of the best things about this technique, anyone can do it, even those of us who cannot draw. Learn all the tricks and tips to creating 3-D patchwork blocks. You will also learn how to use color to enhance the 3-D effect and how to use different settings to create amazing quilts of illusion! 4 week class TREASURE BOXES
