Materials
Kiryu Flannel:
2 yards blue (KU-100, C#106)
2 yards green (KU-300, C#104)
Backing: 2½ yards blue (KU-300, C#106)
Cutting instructions
Cut: (32) 7 blue squares
(31) 7 green squares
(32) 4 ½ blue squares
(31) 4 ½ green squares
Directions
1. Pin 4 ½ blue squares on 7 green squares and 4 ½ green squares on 7 blue squares. Dont worry
about perfectly centering the squares, they can be slightly skewed.
2. Using a straight stitch and sewing ½ in from the raw edge, sew the smaller squares onto the larger
squares.
3. Sew the squares into rows, alternating the colors and pressing the seams open.
4. Now its time to rag the smaller squares: using sharp scissors make tiny clips Ό apart and Ό
around the edge of the smaller squares.
5. Layer quilt with the backing fabric and baste. Stitch around the edge of the quilt, ½ from the edge
using a tight straight stitch. Rag the edges, making tiny clips Ό apart and Ό deep. Lastly, give the
quilt a good shake. Doing this outside will keep your carpets clean!
Making the quilt rag
A trip to the Laundromat is a good idea for the initial wash and dry, since this wash produces lint. After this first wash and dry, you can use your own washer and dryer. Using liquid softener makes the quilt extra soft and snuggly. When you take it out of the dryer, the smaller squares and the edges should be raggy and soft.
