using Karen Comb’s 4-value Texture Stripe fabric

                                                Quilt Size: 88” x 88”                                                                     Block Size: 10”

Yardage:

• Green texture stripe  4 yards

• Blue texture stripe   8 yards

• Purple texture strip 4 yards

Before cutting shapes, separate colors by cutting fabric into lengthwise strip along cutlines.

Cutting:

 Blue block (make 32 blocks)

 

 

 

 

Cut the following:

• A patch: color #1  Light, cut 128   3 3/8” squares, cut in half diagonally to form  256

                           half-square triangles

 

• A patch: color #2  Medium-Light, cut 64  3 3/8” squares, cut in half diagonally to form 128 half-square triangles.

 

 

 

• B patch: color #3  Medium-Dark, cut 192  3” squares

 

• C patch: color #4 Darkest, cut 32  5 7/8” squares, cut in half diagonally to form 64 half-square triangles.  Use extra fabric for border strips and binding

 

 

 

 

 

 

Green Block (make 16 blocks) 

Cut the following:

 

• A patch: color #1  Light, cut 64  3 3/8” squares, cut in half diagonally to form  128 half-square triangles

 

• A patch: color #2  Medium-Light, cut 32  3 3/8” squares, cut in half diagonally to form 64 half-square triangles.

 

• B patch: color #3  Medium-Dark, cut 96  3” squares

 

• C patch: color #4 Darkest, cut 16  5 7/8” squares, cut in half diagonally to form 32 half-square triangles

 

 

 

 

   

Purple Block (make 16 blocks) 

Cut the following:

 

• A patch: color #1  Light, cut 64  3 3/8” squares, cut in half diagonally to form  128 half-square triangles

 

• A patch: color #2  Medium-Light, cut 32  3 3/8” squares, cut in half diagonally to form 64 half-square triangles.

 

• B patch: color #3  Medium-Dark, cut 96  3” squares

 

• C patch: color #4 Darkest, cut 16  5 7/8” squares, cut in half diagonally to form 32 half-square triangle.

 

Assembly:

 Step 1  Using color #1 and color #2, sew 3 3/8” triangles together.  Blue block, make 128.   Green and Purple blocks, make 64 each.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

           

 

 

Step 3  Sew squares and triangles together as shown.  Blue block, make 64.  Green and Purple blocks, make 32 each.

 

 

 

Step 4  Sew units together as shown below.

 

       

 

Following steps 1-4, make 32 blue blocks, 16 purple blocks and 16 green blocks.

 

 

Lay out quilt as shown:

 

 

 

 

 

 

Borders:

 

Extra fabric in Dark blue (color #4) strip is used for the border, cut into 4 ½” strips, save 2” for binding.  

Measure the quilt top vertically down the center, the trim two of the border strips to fit.  Sew these strips to each side of the quilt center.  Next, measure the quilt horizontally across the center (including the two attached border strips), then cut the remaining inner border strips to fit.  Stitch these strips to the top and bottom of the quilt top.

 

Finishing:

Step 1   Layer quilt top with batting and backing, baste.

 

Step 2  Quilt as desired.

 

Step 3  Bind the edges with a 2” wide Dark Blue (color #4) binding stripe.

 

Step 4  Sign and date your quilt
